People with purpose in life

Rudolph Joseph RummelRudolph Joseph Rummel

Rudolph Joseph Rummel (October 21, 1932, Cleveland, Ohio – March 2, 2014, Kaneohe, Hawaii) was professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii. He spent his career assembling data on collective violence and war with a view toward helping their resolution or elimination. Rummel coined the term democide for murder by government (compare genocide), and his research claims that six times as many people died of democide during the 20th century than in all that century’s wars combined. He concluded that democracy is the form of government least likely to kill its citizens and that democracies do not wage war against each other (see Democratic peace theory).

Rummel was the author of 24 scholarly books, and published his major results in Understanding Conflict and War (1975–81). He then spent the next fifteen years refining the underlying theory and testing it empirically on new data, against the empirical results of others, and on case studies. Power Kills (1997) sums up Rummel’s research. Other works include Lethal Politics: Soviet Genocides and Mass Murders 1917–1987 (1990); China’s Bloody Century: Genocide and Mass Murder Since 1900 (1991); Democide: Nazi Genocide and Mass Murder (1992); Death by Government (1994); and Statistics of Democide (1997). Extracts, figures, and tables from the books, including his sources and details regarding the calculations, are available online on his website. Rummel also authored Understanding Factor Analysis (1970) and Understanding Correlation (1976). He was the author of the Never again series of alternative-history novels, in which a secret society sends two lovers armed with fabulous wealth and modern weapons back to 1906 with orders to create an alternative, peaceful century. These works are available online.

There is an extensive FAQ on his webpage, answering many questions and objections regarding the democratic peace and democide. The book Never Again: Ending War, Democide, & Famine Through Democratic Freedom is available on his website. This book aims at popularizing his findings and is available as a free download.

Wayne Walter Dyer (born May 10, 1940) is an American self-help author and motivational speaker.

“My beliefs are that the truth is a truth until you organize it, and then becomes a lie. I don’t think that Jesus was teaching Christianity, Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern, and peace. What I tell people is don’t be Christian, be Christ-like. Don’t be Buddhist, be Buddha-like.”[10] “Religion is orthodoxy, rules and historical scriptures maintained by people over long periods of time. Generally people are raised to obey the customs and practices of that religion without question. These are customs and expectations from outside the person and do not fit my definition of spiritual.”

We are all pressed for time. Learn that you don’t have to wait for the perfect schedule to take care of your health and fitness. Learn how to incorporate it into your day, right now. Learn to take control of your well-being with the time that you do have. I believe that we will do ourselves a service if we focus less on the aesthetic and more on our body’s function.

Hi there! My name is Peter Clemens.

I’m married and have four sons (16-month old twins, 5 and 6 years old). I was born and raised in Perth, Australia. I currently live in Vancouver Red Deer, Canada.

I created The Change Blog in 2007 not because I have all the answers, but to share my story in the hope that it would help others. The short version of this story is that I know what it is like to be unhappy and drifting through life without purpose.

My wake up call came in 2006 when I received the unexpected news I was to be a father. This news was the catalyst for me to start a process of inner-work to change myself into the person I wanted to be. These days I am happy to report that life is great. Don’t get me wrong, there are continually things I struggle with … but what have which I once didn’t are inner peace, happiness and purpose.

I’m an entrepreneur, weightlifter, and travel photographer in 20 countries.

Like you, I’m battling to become better and trying to put a small dent in my corner of the universe. I write about the struggle that we all face to become better leaders, better workers, and better people — and how improving our health can help us do that.

Here’s a quick taste of what you’ll find at www.jamesclear.com

  • Proven ways to get strong, reverse injury, and cure disease
  • Ideas for improving your work and your health at the same time
  • Why art is healthy (and why creating more can save your life)

Richard Wiseman_Richard Wiseman

Richard Wiseman’s first career was as a professional magician and he was once one of the youngest members of the Magic Circle. He studied at UCL and the University of Edinburgh and is now Britain’s only professor for the public understanding of psychology, based at the University of Hertfordshire. He is also a fellow of the US-based Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and in 2001 he led an experiment to find the world’s funniest joke. His previous books have included a study of luck, The Luck Factor, and 59 Seconds, described by the science writer Simon Singh as “a self-help guide based on proper research”. Rip It Up delves further into the science of self-help. The book is so titled because Wiseman wants readers to tear up the book’s pages as they read them: “The book is all about people changing their behaviour,” he says. “To emphasise this key message I am inviting readers to do something that they probably have never done. Each time, readers will be changing their behaviour and so altering how they think and feel.”
